History & origins

The Arab-Barb was born from crossing the Barb with the Purebred Arabian, an age-old practice in the Maghreb aimed at combining the soundness and composure of the former with the lightness and elegance of the latter. Morocco established it as a breed in its own right, with a dedicated stud-book managed by SOREC.

Taller and more 'framed' than the Barb, the Arab-Barb has established itself as the quintessential versatile Moroccan horse: it is found in tbourida troops as well as on competition grounds, in endurance or trekking. It is often the first horse of riders looking for a safe yet responsive partner.

Its growing popularity makes it one of the most sought-after breeds on the Moroccan market today, supported by a structured breeding sector and dedicated conformation and gaits championships.

Bloodlines & stud-books

The Arab-Barb has its own stud-book in Morocco, managed by SOREC, with defined registration conditions (controlled Barb and/or Purebred Arabian origins). Conformation and gaits championships, notably at the El Jadida Horse Fair, showcase the best horses. Always check the registration of the horse and its parents before buying.
